The Technology of Chinese Classical Furniture Mosaic
Chinese classical furniture inlay process refers to the various textures of the material inlaid on the furniture, composed of various patterns of the craft. The materials used in the inlay pattern are mostly mother of pearl, gold and silver, porcelain and marble. The objects made are screens, tables and chairs, basket boxes, etc.
Furniture inlay process originated earlier, in the Tang Dynasty technology has been formed, the Song Dynasty has been more widely used.
embedded stone
Marble with patterns embedded in furniture as a panel is a commonly used decoration method for furniture in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The beautiful and varied texture of marble makes the furniture interesting. The marble used on hardwood furniture is generally top grade. Marble inlay is more common in larger parts of furniture, such as screen core board, desktop, chair surface, backrest and other positions. There are also other types of stone inlays, such as chrysanthemum stone, red silk stone, coal fine stone and so on.
mother-of-pearl
It refers to the general name of the decorative craft of grinding human objects, flowers and birds, geometric figures or characters with snail shells and seashells, and inlaid on the surface of the objects according to the needs of the picture. It is a unique artistic treasure in China. At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the production of inlaid mother-of-pearl crafts reached a peak. There were specialized craftsmen in the palace office to make the royal mother's inlaid mother-of-pearl crafts. It has a large number and a rich variety, ranging from bottles, boxes, cups, plates and study utensils to furniture and other patterns decorated with colorful mother-of-pearl inlaid with landscape figures, flowers, birds, fish and insects. There is also a kind of lacquer wood inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The embedded mother-of-pearl is higher than the surface of lacquer or wood, forming a relief or high relief pattern, which is called "engrave".
Cloisonne
It is made of copper plate, and the surface is bonded with various patterns made of copper wire or silver wire, and then the enamel color of minerals such as quartz, feldspar, saltpeter and sodium carbonate is coated in the silk pattern of the ware, and then fired at high temperature. According to the production method, it can be roughly divided into cloisonne enamel, enamel filling, enamel painting, etc.
Inlaid with gold and silver
There are all kinds of gold angle, silver angle, copper angle and all kinds of legs, leaves, etc., which are mostly reflected in the lacquer core of screen-linked furniture. Lacquerware inlaid with gold and silver was used very early in China, and the Tang Dynasty was the most popular period, mainly among the upper nobles and monks in temples.
Baibao Inlay
It is to selectively inlay a variety of processed precious materials on the same artifact, so as to achieve the purpose of highlighting the theme of composition and strengthening the decorative effect. It is famous for its precious materials, fine and labor-intensive production, and gorgeous and exquisite finished products. Craftsmen can use this technique to decorate screens, tables, chairs, bookshelves, pen containers, tea sets, inkstone boxes, book boxes, etc. Especially in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Baibao inlay technique was applied to lacquerware and woodware to make indoor furniture and furnishings, which was loved by the nobles and dignitaries of the palace.
